The Daughters of Penelope is the senior women's auxiliary of the AHEPA. Objectives are to promote the social, ethical, and
intellectual interests of its members; to cultivate good citizenship and patriotism for the
United States and other countries where
chapters exist; and to promote the dissemination of Hellenic culture and ideals.
All Daughters are members of local chapters, which hold meetings and sponsor social and charitable activities. Probably the
best known project they help to support is St.
Basil's Academy in Garrison, New York.
Back in the mid 1960s, one of the
members, Josie Chase, was the youngest
woman to reach the level of Grand (National)
President.
Locally, our chapter has a big fashion show and luncheon once a year. Money is contributed to scholarships and other good works. Our local Penelope chanter #15 was organized in 1934 and has 76 members today.
