THE LAYOUT ARTIST

In order to put together a book like this you need someone skilled in art layout. Our church is fortunate indeed to have one who is highly skilled.

From the very beginning John Davies has been consulting with the album committee and contributing long hours of his time.

It is difficult to describe John's job title since he is skilled in so many ways. He is an advertising specialist, a public relations man, artist, and designer. He also teaches a class in graphic design at Ohio Wesleyan.

His early training included three-and-a-half years at Columbus College of Art & Design, and he earned his B.F.A. from the Dayton Art Institute.

He married Kriti Ambazis in 1965 shortly before leaving for Vietnam to serve in army security. They have three children: Erene, Steven, and Mary. They lived in Dayton from 1967 to 1976 when they relocated to Columbus.

Of stoic Welsh extraction, John says he was first attracted to the Greeks because, as an artist, he loves contrasts. He finds the Greek people to be colorful, and he likes their zest for life. He took his family to Greece in 1984 to visit the islands of Kriti's ancestors.

She graduated from Goshen High School in 1959. While living and working in Cincinnati, she met Mikis Synadinos, who swept her off her feet to Athens, Greece, where they were married in 1963. The visit to her husband's village of Stemnitsa sparked Diana's interest in the village folklore. She was intrigued by the beautifully crafted Greek costumes, which led her to costume copying, photography, and speaking engagements on village life.

Diana and Mikis have two sons, George Damian (Yorgo). and Pavlo. The family has made several excursions to Greece to visit relatives and become part of the Greek life.
Diana has used each visit to extend her knowledge of Greek culture.

Since her arrival in Columbus in 1965, Diana has involved herself in various aspects of our community. Her know-ledge of Greek traditions, language, and religion is a remarkable feat for one who was neither born nor raised in a Greek home. She enjoys clothing design and sewing, doll making, videotaping, reading, writing, and studying the writings of prominent Christian thinkers.
