Anyone who is acquainted with ancient
Greek history will remember that the early
Greeks worshipped pagan gods. However, in
the first century the Greeks were evangelized
by the Apostle Paul. The Church he founded
still exists today. It is called the Greek Orthodox Church and is the historical continuation
of the early Church.
The Nicene Creed is still recited without the later additions.
The basis for our belief is embodied in
the following:
I believe in one God, Father, Almighty,
Maker of Heaven and Earth and of all things
visible and invisible.
And in One Lord Jesus Christ, the
Only-Begotten Son of God, begotten of the
Father before all Ages. Light of Light, True
God of True God, begotten not made, One in
essence with the Father, through Whom all
things were made.
Who for us men and for our salvation
came down from Heaven, and was incarnate
by the Holy Spirit and of the Virgin Mary, and
became Man. And was crucified for us under
Pontius Pilate, suffered and was buried. And
rose on the third day according to the Scriptures. And ascended into Heaven and earth
at the right hand of the Father. And He shall
come again with glory to judge the living and
the dead; Whose Kingdom shall have no end.
I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord,
the Giver of Life, Who proceedeth from the
Father, Who with the Father and the Son together is worshipped and glorified; Who
spoke through the Prophets.
I believe in One Holy, Catholic, and
Apostolic Church.
I acknowledge One Baptism for the remission of sins.
I look for the resurrection of the dead.
And the life of the ages to come.
Amen.
