In May, 1982, 23 members of our community made their first pilgrimage to the Holy Land.
They visited all of the historic sites and were surprised to learn that there are more owned by the Orthodox Church than they realized.
In 1985 eleven people went on the second trip, while ten went on the third trip in 1987. On each trip the entire group is baptized in the Jordan River, thus making . them hadjides, or pilgrims. The accompanying photo shows the 1987 group standing in the Jordan.

Growing older in America can have a different meaning today for elderly Greeks. Tradition in the old country dictated that older family members continued to live near or with the younger generation of family members. In today's society some of the traditions are not practical, so families are looking for ways to provide a pleasant and comfortable retirement for parents who cannot keep up with the demands of home ownership.
