On the 5th of October, Mrs. George Phillips of Lima, Ohio, announced the
engagement of her daughter Zoe to Sgt. Michael Kanatas, son of Mrs. Theodore Kanatas, 438 East Rich St. Sgt. Kanatas is with a mechanized division
now overseas.
A party was given Friday evening, October 14, to announce the engagement of Miss Kay Triffon, daughter of Mr. Nick Triffon, to 1st Sgt. Lefther Vasillion of Dayton, Ohio. No definite date has been set for the wedding.
Mr. and Mrs. Gregory Kilberis, 1408 Northwest Blvd., announced the engagement of their daughter Kathryn to Mr. Gus Babalis of Springfield, Ohio.
Mr. Babalis received his B.S.B.A. degree from O.S.U. at the close of the summer session of 1944 and is now affiliated with Thompson Products in Cleveland. Miss Kilberis is a sophomore at O.S.U.
November 5th was the date chosen for their marriage by Miss Thelma
Polis, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Louis Polis, 108 East Russell St., and Mr. Chris
Chakeres, son of Mr. and Mrs. William Chakeres. Best of luck to the newly
weds.
Private Peter Stagakes, 61 E, Duncan St., was reported wounded in action
Capt. Nick and Cpl. Tom Zanetos were both home on furloughs visiting
their parents Mr. and Mrs. Anthony Zanetos. Cpl. Tom Zanetos is with a service
division at Allegheny County Airfield at Pittsburgh. He has been in the
Army since January 1942. Captain Nick Zanetos has been in the service five
years. He was commissioned in 1941 at Fort Monmouth and is with the signal
corp. Nick has served two years in Iceland and is now stationed at Drew
Field, Florida.
Pvt. Pete Eleftherios, a former O.S.U. student, stopped in Columbus to see
his friends after spending his furlough at home in Lowell, Massachusetts. Pvt.
Eleftherios is a weather forecaster stationed at Strother Field, Kansas.
Pfc. Nick Moskovitis was stationed at the U. S. Army Depot in Columbus
to receive a special six weeks training. Pfc. Moskovitis is from Lowell, Massachusetts and is now with the Engineering Division at Camp Polk, Louisiana.
Seaman Emile Pappas enjoyed a 35-day leave in Columbus after two
years of service in the U. S. Navy. Mr. Pappas has seen action in the Mediterranean and the Pacific. While in Columbus, Mr. Pappas stayed with his sister
and brother-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. George Zanglanis.
Another visitor was former OSU student Gus Kontras. Pfc. Kontras has
been in the service for 20 months and at the present time is studying Japanese
at the University of Michigan at Ann Arbor.
Lt. Theodore Papadeas of Altoona, Pennsylvania, has been stationed at Lockbourne Army Air Base since the latter part of August, 1944. Lt. Papadea's
received his pilot's wings at Freeman Field, Indiana in August and was sent
here for further training.
Prior to his enlistment in the Air Corps, Lt. Papadeos attended Dickinson
College, Carlisle, Pennsylvania for two and one half years. He was also
Army Aviation Cadet instructor for one year at Americus, Georgia.
Pfc. Pete Zanglanis, son of Mr. and Mrs. Gus Zanglanis, was home on a
12 day furlough. Pete is stationed at Fort Bliss, Texas, and has been in the
service for 16 months. He is engaged to Mary Coushon of Springfield, Ohio.
